Kamakura Daibutsu (Big Buddha)

Kamakura Daibutsu (Big Buddha) 2009-01-08

The daibutsu (big Buddha) is a "must see" in Kamakura. You can take a bus or walk (about 20 minutes from Kamakura Station). The entry fee is 200 yen (about $2).

  • I remember going there on my trip to Japan. It was huge! I also remember going to Enoshima right after this. If I recall correctly, a vendor was selling some really interesting, but tasty, flavors of ice cream near the daibutsu.

  • Agree that Kamakura is a must see from Tokyo. Gets you out of the city and the journey there is part of the adventure. Nice image too, love the deep blues.

  • Hi Andrew, nice photo of the Daibutsu! I might also add that people can get there by taking the Enoden line from Kamakura station and getting off at Hase station (Hase Temple, on the way to the Daibutsu, is also a great place to stop by!)

Geez.. It's 2 years I'm living in Tokyo and I've yet to visit Kamakura.. that's a shame, isn't it? I'm going there soon though!
