Temple Detail 2006-03-29
I saw the roof of a temple (or shrine...sorry, didn't look carefully) between buildings just off Ameyayokocho (near Ueno Station). It seem literally wedged between buildings, so I went to have a look. This detail caught my eye. The "guardian" of the steps with a billboard in the background. The pole seemed to work by dividing the two women. That, for me, helped bring out the sense of discomfort and confict. These sorts of conflicts are all around in modern (or postmodern or premodern) Tokyo.
On another note, Mari's chickenpox have passed through the itchy stage. We're all glad about that. I'm back at my "free wireless" spot on the street again...
