Portrait of an Artist

Portrait of an Artist 2005-05-25

I went to a show at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art last Sunday. It was amazing. If you want to see Japan "off the beaten path," then go to a museum or gallery. But don't automatically head out to see the work of some famous dead person. There are countless unknown artists in Japan, and you can always find a them showing their works in galleries somewhere (and paying for the privilege, by the way). The exhibition that I went to is featuring over 300 large scale works, mostly oil paintings, by a nationwide group of female artists. I saw many of the artists moving around in groups and talked to several. The woman here was very friendly. She's standing in front of her painting.
