Why I like American Express in Japan
My favorite way to learn Japanese online and by podcast (because it works!)
Mixed Nuts 2005-10-07
A mish-mash of life passes in blur on a sidewalk in Ikebukuro. Potato chip anyone?
I appreciated the comments following yesterday's post. I'll try to write one myself at some point. Tomorrow is the undoukai (sports day) at my daughter's high school. Last year I took about 200 pictures. I hope to take fewer and better shots this time. It promises to be an extravaganza of people, colors, and motion if only the weather cooperates. Right now they're predicting clouds and possible showers. At about 4am tomorrow morning a host of moms will wake up and start making bento lunches. Many (not all, of course) will dream of sitting down as a family for lunch and having better looking food than the family next to them. My wife, um, has the ingredients for our bentos in the freezer. She'll thaw it all out tonight, wake up and 7am, and try to make bentos that will not garner looks of pity. (I'm exagggerating...I think.) Yesterday we joked about bringing McDonalds or having a pizza delivered. As Chris pointed out in yesterday's comments, though, certain kinds of humor (especially of the sarcastic/ironic variety) tend to fall flat here.
