Street Shogi Players in Japan

I came across a group of men outside Ikebukuro Station gathered around over-turned boxes, sitting on purple shower stools and engaged in fierce games of Shogi (a.k.a., Japanese Chess). At first I thought they were all homeless, because of the boxes and other evidence in sight. But then I saw a couple of salarymen and perhaps some retirees in the mix. Naturally, I took pictures.
