Sunday Family Photo - Mari's Painting

Sunday Family Photo - Mari's Painting 2007-03-24

The teachers at the preschool think kids should create art with as little direction as possible. I like the idea. Mari and Maika paint and draw some VERY bizarre pictures. Reia, who spent two years at another preschool, draws a horizontal line at the bottom (ground) and puts sky at the top. In between (as the teacher says) is like a stage where the picture is placed. But the twins tell stories as they work, and their perspective is somewhere inside the picture (rather than outside looking at a stage).

Oh, and I love this picture. The colors are great, and it truly draws me in. The teacher thinks the twins have potential as artists. Well, like all parents, I'm ready to believe anything (good) that you tell me about my kids. :)

Note: The twins also have the tendency to sometimes draw sideways or upside down. I believe this picture is sideways, but this is how Mari drew it. I was a bit worried about that, but a quick check on Google confirmed that it's normal. Many kids invert drawings even up to the age of six.

  • I think the picture is great. How old are you twins? In the photos they look about 4 but bit hard to tell I suppose.

I work in a preschool and while we do craft each day where there is sort of set instructions for the kids to work from we also have free time where kids can paint, draw, bead, colour or do anything creative. They are free to use anything from the craft closet. I usually like the work they produce during these times than that of what they prepare during craft time. I love the stories that accompany their pictures.... For example-This is mummy, and me and this is an elephant on the beach.

Mari`s picture looks as if it would have had a very interestin story that accompanied it. I beleive their teacher is right...they definitely have the making of artists!

  • Hehehe...reminds me of my preschool days, sooo many years ago. Getting paint up your nails while finger painting, drawing on your best friends back, cutting out potatoes to make "stamps", drawing on your best friends back....ahh, great stuff. ;)

I got a few of my old paintings in the garage somewhere. I used to like craft time, but it never meant anything - I can't draw to save my life. I wouldnt read too much into kids paintings. ;)

  • Cute! It reminds me of my friend cameron who writes stories about "Gecko Gacko the Gum Machine" and "Inventor Bears" and draws things like Toby Mac and bears. This drawing looks like a monster of some sort.

  • Nice piece of kid's art... Reminds me of my nephew when he was at pre-school... Now, he is a teenager but still loves to paint... Actually, his first painting was framed by his mother...

  • I received 1 st business loans when I was 25 and this supported my family a lot. However, I need the credit loan once again.
